Is it an Ellenism that Jesus will come thru Orion's belt at the 2nd coming? We were looking thru a telescope the other night at Orion, and I mentioned the "fact" that Jesus would come thru Orion's belt. The astronomer and 2 others that I was with were baffled. They had never heard of this. I was shocked. I thought everyone "knew" this fact....They insist that this is not in the bible. I cant find it either. Is this yet another SDA claim that I never questioned? |

Yes this is an Adventism belief proclaimed by Ellen White and certainly not something found in the Bible. God being eternal, heaven the place of God certainly could not be located in the physical created universe. The White Estate has this reference:
quote:Dark heavy clouds came up, and clashed against each other. The atmosphere parted and rolled back; then we could look up through the open space in Orion, whence came the voice of God. The holy city will come down through that open space. I saw that the powers of earth are now being shaken, and that events come in order. War, and rumors of war, sword, famine, and pestilence are first to shake the powers of earth, then the voice of God will shake the sun, moon, and stars, and this earth also. I saw that the shaking of the powers in Europe is not, as some teach, the shaking of the powers of heaven, but it is the shaking of the angry nations. (Christian Experience and Teachings of Ellen G. White, Page 111)

Javagirl, This is an Ellenism in which I was caught once also! I was having a conversation about the 2nd coming with an associate pastor of my "new" church and I mentioned Orion's belt. Of course, the pastor had never heard of this detail so I promised to find the passage and bring it back to him at our next study. As you know, I couldn't find it because it does not exist and I was mortified to have to make that report to the pastor. The good that came from this was that the pastor learned more about SDA beliefs and figured out that SDAs aren't just Christians that go to church on a different day of the week. |

In another post of mine (EGW is a spiritualist and ocultist) I said that EGW ordered, paid and raised a white obelisk when her husband died. That obelisk is still "decorating" the grave of both of them. I also pointed out that an obelisk is a heathen symbol of phallus, that ancient heathens used to make orgies in front of obelisks to "please" their gods of fertility and reproduction, that an obelisk is always a symbol of spiritualism, occultism and Freemasonry. And I also pointed out something else: the first obelisk in history was raised by Nimrod, who was represented in ancient literature and paintings with the constellation of Orion. Afterwards I asked whether that could be a coincidence. What I meant was exactly what you asked here: EGW was an occultist, spiritualist and Freemasonry fan, who raised an obelisk on her own grave, who "accidentally" said that Jesus would return through the so-called "Orion's belt" etc. So, yes, that was HER OWN idea, hers only. All occultists and spiritualists are particularly fascinated with that constellation. It is beautiful, I have to admit, but that's not the reason why they are so fascinated with it. It's its symbolic meaning that is fascinating to them. EGW was no different. |

It's true, Javagirl...it's an Ellenism for sure! There's an article in a past issue of Proclamation written by Martin Carey that I think will be interesting and helpful. Martin is an accomplished amateur astronomer. The article is called "Opening Orion", and you can read it online here: http://www.lifeassuranceministries.org/proclamation/2009/3/openingorion.html Colleen |

Colleen~ Thank-you for this link regarding 'Orion' ! After leaving adventism years ago, my daughters and I realized the belief we had held regarding 'Orion' was indeed, just another of egwhite's lies, told to her by the same 'source' as all the other lies. ~mj~ |

The Orion thing is just as phony as "a cloud the size of a man's hand" that appears in the sky right before the Second Coming. This cloud is mentioned in the Bible, all right, but has nothing to do with the Second Coming. Hint: Read the story of Elijah on Mt. Carmel. |
