So someone in another thread posted a link to a repository of SDA paintings and images. I happened across this one and was astounded: http://www.biblegallery.com/detail/1645-CMBB350SABBATH001CRH.html Note how first, the Ten Commandments are above the Bible, indicating they are greater than the rest of the Bible. And then, notice who is above both the 10C's and the Bible. Yep, you guessed it. Could the message be any clearer? Ellen > Ten Commandments > Rest of the Bible. |

Well THERE'S a message...the entire Bible is bondage. It's connected by a chain, and the impression is of being chained and bound. The first picture is very interesting, too. Notice the pointed steeple rising above Ellen. No cross, of course, and quite a distinct pyramid shape... God truly rescued us from deep darkness. Colleen |

Come to think of it, I too felt that oppressive darkness from such pictures as an Adventist. But I misinterpreted what I was feeling as just a heavy obligation to do what Ellen White and what I thought the Bible said to do in order to be saved. Now I realize that Ellen White's "mission" (whether she realized it or not) was actually from demons trying to get as many people as possible bound in chains of darkness to something - in this case legalism - that would keep them away from Jesus. "Testament," of course means "Covenant" and it's interesting all the things that Adventists miss when it comes to the New Covenant. The two Covenants aren't chained together at all. Adventists miss the fact that the New Covenant is new! Jesus said, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood which is shed for you." Luke 22:20 2nd Corinthians 3:7-8 calls the old covenant "the ministry of death" and the new covenant "the ministry of the Spirit." Galatians 4:22-26 compare the two covenants - the old one to the slave woman - "the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage..." verse 24. Hebrews 8:13 says that God made the old covenant "obsolete." Hebrews 9:15-17 talks about Jesus bringing in the new covenant by His death - which totally refutes my SDA sister who was trying to tell me in one of her many twistings to try to get out of believing the plain word of the Bible; that both covenants were in force back when Israel was born as a nation and that they had chosen the old covenant. I think all or most of the cults have eerie, dark pictures - the Mormons do and even the Jehovah's Witnesses depictions of the "New Earth" are dark even those the people have big grins on their faces as they labor in the ground planting stuff. I tried to tell one J.W. that God said that He would dwell with his people in the end. Of course they believe that only 144,000 Jehovah's Witnesses will go to Heaven and that the rest will live on the earth without God. She tried to say that verse in Revelation 21:3 "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, meant that God would dwell up in the ceiling of the tabernacle - Heaven. |

I stopped looking at the "art" around page50. I found the picture I wanted to make a special point of bringing to.everyone's attention. It's on page 46 of that.long list kind of.in the center of the page. It's titled Resurrection Flames and was commissioned from Mr. Harry Anderson and shows Jesus coming in the clouds with the people half way out of their graves. They are still in their graves from their waist down. I used to gaze and gaze at that.picture when i was a kid.My grandma had a print of it hanging in her room. She had us bury her in a new beautiful white wedding dress so at the resurrection she'd be ready as the bride of Christ to meet her eternal husband, Jesus. |

I don't know...this one is just creepy: http://www.biblegallery.com/detail/1736-CMGN787MOLDING001B.html I agree Punababe, JW art is eerily similar to SDA art. You know they have historical connections? |

Oh my, Nowisee, that is truly creepy. How about creation week: http://www.biblegallery.com/detail/1771-BSOT_J100CREATION001.html http://www.biblegallery.com/detail/146-BSOT100DAYS001CHB.html http://www.biblegallery.com/detail/148-BSOT100PILLARS001CHB.html Ok, now doesn't this look like idol worship?? http://www.biblegallery.com/detail/353-BTCM_J366SANCTUARY00.html Also, notice the light image imposed on each picture. A paint brush with the tip (subliminally) pointing to the 4th paint spot on a palette shaped like the Bible. |

Alot of the pictures make it clear that the sda church pays more respect and devotion to egw, the Sabbath and the IJ than to Jesus as Lord and Saviour and grace and mercy and forgiveness. You know, come to think of it there was no sda pu picture of Communion. |

Ugh! Krista, the one with the angels/throne/crown on thrown---I guess it's supposed to be a depiction of the mercy seat, but look at what's sitting on the throne, with His crown perched over the tablets. Jesus has been replaced (last of Krista's links) by the law. You got it right, Punababe. Law elevated; Jesus has left the throne! |

Interesting observation, Nowisee! These pictures have a strong influence and just reinforce their doctrines. It's really sad, how unbiblical they are. |

quote:Krista, the one with the angels/throne/crown on thrown---I guess it's supposed to be a depiction of the mercy seat
In the real tabernacle, the 10C's were in the ark beneath the mercy seat, not sitting in God's place above the mercy seat. This is a very important distinction: The blood of the goat on Yom Kippur would be sprinkled on the Mercy Seat over which hovered the presence of God. Thus, when God looked down at the Law, represented by the 10Cs, He would see the blood of the goat covering the Law. The importance of this is that the blood of the goat covered Israel's transgressions against the Law, just as the blood of the true sacrifice, Jesus Christ, covers our transgressions against God, justifying us by His blood. It is no surprise to me that SDA church wouldn't understand this. They put the 10C's on the very throne of God, making them into an idol in place of God, and thereby destroying the doctrine of justification. |

It brings me back to the Garden of Grace at Andrews University. It depicts approaching God by entering via the seven stairs of creation (never mind there were only six days of creation...but they say the Sabbath was created on the seventh day), walking to the cross, then turning from the cross to complete the walk across the garden to the Ten Commandments which represent God the Father. In the commands the visitor finds the presence of God. The cross is merely the entrance vehicle to the garden. In Adventism, as Richard pointed out, the cross is what "guilts" us. It is the evidence of how bad we are, the pain we caused Jesus. In Adventism, the Law is the whole perfection of God. In a biblical worldview, however, the Law is what guilts us. the law is what convicts us of sin and increases sin. The cross is our salvation...it is our healing. It is where we experience the love and grace of God; it's where we find forgiveness and wholeness. Adventism turns reality upside down and makes Jesus and His sacrifice the "icky", sin-convicting part of the equation instead of the Law being the convicting vehicle. So Adventists don't like the cross; they like the bloodless, do-it-yourself sterility of the law. They see the Law being the evidence of their righteousness. In reality, the cross is the place where we receive our righteousness. It is the blood that cleanses us and rescues us from sin. It is not the blood that shames us. The law condemns us to death, eternal death. The blood of Jesus reconciles us to God. It is the most powerful, beautiful "thing" in all the universe...and it makes possible Jesus' resurrection which gives us life. Colleen |

Beautiful, Colleen, just beautiful .... You are so right ... Adventism turns it all inside out and upside down ... His blood cleanses us from sin ... without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness ... Thank you for all that you wrote ... I have to admit the pictures that horrified me the most on those pages were the ones depicting the 2nd coming ... for some reason my stomach wanted to lurch and cringe ....I saw people hiding in the rocks - and it reminded me of the fear element that we were brain washed about the second coming of Christ and how we really couldn't know if we were saved and right before hand we would be hunted by "Sunday - keepers" ... Let's just call it PTSD Adventist style ... Anyways, .... Carolyn M. |

Thanks Colleen! Now I understand why I never liked to hear sermons about the cross, and didn't like the Passion...I just always felt so guilty. I know there is some weird EGW stuff around that also, but can't think exactly what it was. So grateful to be free of all the shame and guilt! |
