This morning I can across a ‘practical joke’ that centered on a ‘Charlatan card reader’. What would be your opinion on this? That is, based on Scriptural teaching, is there any such thing as an honest Tarot card reader who is not some form of fake? I already have a biblical answer to my question but since similar topics come up from time to time on this forum, I am wondering how the rest of you would respond if confronted with this. Phil |

I don't particpate, read or even laugh at anything that involves horoscopes, fortune tellers, tarot card or palm readers, ouija boards or anything else of the kind. I think people who do are dabbling in dangerous spiritual territory. When something like that comes in my path for whatever reason, I quietly (or maybe not so quietly at times depending on the circumstance) walk - or run away. |

It doesn't hurt to repeat topics. Some topics are really GOOD to bring up again! Demonic power is real and I believe that many of those readers are using that power rather than simply faking it... of course in the end, it's going to turn around and bite them. |

Well I have mixed views about this, I know there are many fakes, but I also know the Psychic Network should be called the Demon Network. Demons do have supernatural powers, and if all parties involved are isolated from the Holy Spirit then those parties can be subject to those demonic powers, sometimes even indefinitely. While the Scripture says God controls the lot, I believe the rare card reader that isn't a fake, is demon possessed and makes of the readings what the demon says to make of it(and although will be providing real information to the victim, it will not be because of the cards so in that way you could still call them a fake card reader), so the shuffling of the deck doesn't really matter that much. Later on a tall blonde swede with a limp makes a pass at the lonely old lady, just as the card reader said, because he too is demon possessed and was compelled to that action. Later, when the man of the widow's dreams cleans her bank account out and makes off with the good silver flatware, the evil comes full circle. Not specifically about cards, but I would point out that Pharaoh's court magicians made snakes, they couldn't stand up to the One True Creator, but they made snakes nonetheless. |

Oh and I totally agree with Joyfulheart, it would be spiritual adultery, and even if I thought they could give me useful non-demonic information, I wouldn't want the information. |

I agree with Asurprise. I will not have anything to do with ANY of that "supernatural" stuff. I will not even TOUCH a ouija board. I remember several years ago one of the vendors in our store (antiques/collectibles) had a vintage ouija board in his space. By the time I realized it was even there someone came in wanting to buy it. I would not touch it. I told the guy if he wanted it I would be happy to sell it to him to get it out of there...LOL but he would have to pick it up and put it in the bag himself.. he probably thought I was nuts... LOL I didn't care. I wanted it out of there and wasn't about to touch even the box.I also disinfected the countertop and said a prayer after it left the store. Hubby told me a strange story about Ouija board at Monterey Bay Academy he heard when he went to school there... if it was true or an urban legend I don't know, but it was creepy. |

Deuteronomy was very clear that God's people were never to dabble in sorcery of any sort, and Jesus said we were to let our Yes be Yes and our No be No. I believe that as Christ's body we are called to be transparent and honest and to walk in the light. Being a tarot card reader, fake or not, is playing with the dark side. Pretending to be a tarot card reader for the sake of a practical joke is an attempt to deceive. The whole idea is twisted twice, so to speak. I have had similar issues with the idea of Christian "magicians". I know a great deal of a magician's act is sleight of hand, but the premise is to deceive. Whether or not the magician continues toward the darker arts as some do, is beside the point; I have a personal issue with the idea of entertaining or teasing through deception. Even if it's only for a joke, it involves making a vulnerable person feel foolish, and if it's for entertainment, it draws the audience into fantasy. Just my opinion... Colleen |

By the way, has anyone noticed the huge numbers of occultic movies playing in the theater? Has it always been this way or have the numbers of those movies increased? Last night while waiting for the movie that I came for to come on, they showed at least three previews of upcoming occultic movies! One of them was an animated one for kids that had "nice" witchcraft in it! (There's no such thing as "nice" witchcraft!) |

Your post, Asurprise, reminded me of this blog article I read last year. http://unplugyourfamily.blogspot.com/2011/08/trouble-with-twilight-part-1-sexy-candy.html It's about the evil pull of the Twilight movies and books. It's worth a read. Reading those types of books and watching those types of movies is not just innocent fun. |

Asurprise, people usually don't like it when I name Disney, but Disney has been doing this very thing longer than I've been alive... I think perhaps the message has just gotten a little more overt and the number of companies churning this stuff out has increased, but Disney is always magic this magic that, and a lot of it can be traced to pagan european concepts. Then you've got the Mickey Mouse Club churning out sex idols like a factory, I always thought that was strange too. Annette Funacello(sic, way before my time) the latest ones that come to mind are Brittney Spears and Christina Aguleira(sic), who were on stage with Madonna during some sort of weird staged wedding where they're both dressed as brides in white gowns and madonna is in a black tux, tails and a top hat, that was the event that included the kiss Madonna gave Spears and made a lot of news. |

You know, I've thought the same thing about Disney lately. I grew up with all the classic movies and loved them all. I think both Disney Land and Disney World rock. I like all the characters and princesses. That all being said, the movies are so often not only missing parents to help the kids in trouble, but mocking their aloofness and stupidity and also riddled with magic and sorcery. The current stuff on Disney seems to me to be promoting the "I know better than my parents" theme and general disregard of authority figures. That is in direct opposition to the revealed instruction in the Bible. There are some exceptions and Disney movies are generally better than the rest, but I'm concerned about and cautious about the stuff I let kids around me watch. There's not much decent stuff for kids out there. It does seem like the current witchcraft stuff makes it seem harmless and good. The Bible says the opposite. What message are we sending our kids? |

Let's face it; post-modernism has made it acceptable to embrace all beliefs, even if those beliefs are anti-biblical. Absolute truth has not changed; our cultural norms of what's acceptable and what's not have changed. Deception is still deception. Evil is still evil. And Truth is still and will always be the Lord Jesus. Colleen |

Because of the thread, I'd really like to share these photos, I do not believe this is only for show, but if it is, it still shows where the heart of entertainment is, this is someone named Nicky Minaj at the grammy's dressed up like, I dunno, the whore of Babylon? The face embroidered on the red dress reminds me vaguely of something I've seen before, Janus perhaps? What do you folks make of this? http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_AG9of8sVSQ/Tz4f61xB7kI/AAAAAAAAFDQ/yxf4TTg2bz8/s1600/WHORE-OF-BABYLON-500x334.jpg http://www.sicksadworld.info/images/music/NickiMinaj/NickiMinaj-thePope-2012GrammyAwards4.jpg This is from the 2012 Grammy Awards, the girl, who is an R&B singer and a bad one at that, always looks somber, the pope is just a hired actor and sometimes he's smiling etc, but Minaj always looks very grave, it's weird, the song also had some references to Rome and mind control and demons. |
