A friend and I saw the new movie: "Act of Valor" this weekend. It has some bad language and violence in it, but it's a good movie. Now I'm going to mention a scene from the movie and discuss false religions versus true Christianity, so if any of you don't want to know anything that happens in the movie, you might not want to read this... In one scene, a young Muslim woman stands with her thumb poised above a switch, ready to detonate her suicide vest. Tears are running down her face, but she still believes that she will go to heaven, once she pushes the switch. Now there are differences between a radical Muslim like her and devout SDAs, such as a radical Muslim will destroy ("infidel") lives, while SDAs won't kill another person even to defend themselves and others; but the similarities are sad. Both believe the things they have been taught. Muslims believe that the koran is supreme and that the Bible has been corrupted and SDAs believe that the Bible is true, but it's explained by Ellen White. Both close their minds to the fact that their religions are false. Muslims could ask the true God to teach them the truth and check into whether the Bible is really true or not. The dead sea scrolls confirm the truth of the Bible. SDAs could ask God to show them whether SDAism is true or not and study the Bible without Ellen White and be willing to read what Christians are saying about the Bible versus Ellen White. |

Now, before an unbeliever says: "what's the difference between a Muslim being martyred for what he believes and the early Christians being willing do die for his faith?" Besides the obvious difference that one of them is killing others and the other is being killed for his faith; the early Christians who were martyred were witnesses of Christ. Both believe what they believe with all their hearts, and neither would die for what they know is a lie. The early disciples KNEW that what they believed was true because they saw Jesus for themselves. They saw Him work miracles, die on the cross and they saw Him after He rose. They saw Him go to Heaven. When we read the new testament gospels, we're reading eyewitness testimony. We also know they were martyred for their faith! Yes, people die as martyrs today for all different kinds of religions, and though they would only die for what they believe to be true, there's an important difference between people now and the early Christians. The early Christians were eyewitnesses! |

Haven't seen the movie, while there are really good screen plays come out of Hollywood just every once in a while, it seems to me they are getting fewer. |

River as a Christian Screenwriter in Hollywood I can tell you that the good screenplays are getting fewer. It's a very hard business to break into especially as a Christian and I'm certain my choice to put as much about Salvation as possible throughout my scripts isn't helping my case. However quality for the most part is lacking...as is originality. On the topic I would say that while people can be Martyr's for a cause that they support- even if it isn't right. The Apostles were Martyr's for a cause that was not only true but about the salvation of souls. They died for the Messiah who had already died for them. |

Liberals don't like this movie, because it points out how dangerous radical Islam is. |

You're right Ric, I forgot about that! They do murder those little people - by rationalizing that since they haven't yet breathed atmosphere, they somehow aren't human... They believe people are made up of {"body plus breath."} They don't do the tiny bit of studying it would take to see that the word tranlated "spirit" comes from the word pneuma and that the word "spirit" in "Holy Spirit" is also "pneuma." If it wasn't for the fact that Ellen White said that the Holy Spirit is a Person, they'd be calling Him in all earnest sincerity: "Holy Breath." In this verse, both words for "spirit" are "pneuma" in the Greek. (I took a beginning Greek class awhile back and learned the sounds of the letters and other valuable things.) "For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God." 1st Corinthians 2:11 (I guess SDAs are, in effect, saying that God is understood by His breath!) |
