ABC News report:
quote:KFC, Del Taco, Weinerschnitzel, Baker's Burger, and most notably a Carl's Jr., which also came under intense fire when it first moved in
Considering all the other fast food chains that are already in the city of Loma Linda there is no way to legally prevent McDonalds from also 'coming to town'. Phil |

"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death." We shouldn't be so concerned with living a long time. Not that we shouldn't be interested in our health, but we shouldn't be obsessed with it. Let McDonalds fail, since 50% of the population are Adventists and wouldn't dare go there. Why get all up in arms, right? And how about tell your kids NO if you don't want them to eat there? Those pesky teenagers, though, you know they'll start going there and eating that evil meat. Excuse me while I go bake a chicken. (Message edited by Katarain on January 14, 2012) |

The last time I checked, which was this afternoon! There is a "Ronald McDonald House" located at 11365 Anderson Street, Loma Linda, Ca.! this is next door to the LLU Medical Center~ The Ronald McDonald House is sponsored by the famous "McDonald's" Hamburger Chain~ It seems to me if McDonald's wants to build a store front in Loma Linda, what is the Big Fuss? I believe that probably the Medical Center refers people to the R. McDonald House; this "Outrage" is just another example of how "out of touch" the "sda's" are about SO MANY things~ ~mj~ |

They are a bunch of fanatics. I think they should just avoid the place if they dont' want to go. Yes, they don't want their kids to go there when they get more independent. I heard that Loma Linda also got upset when they started getting mail delivery on Saturdays. They had made the town refuse to deliver mail on Saturday mornings, and then the Adventists lost that battle. LOSERS!!! :D |

I think McDonald's should counter and call these people out on their Seventh-Day Adventist over-processed sodium and preservative laden fake canned meat! Health conscious, really?? At the least it's ridiculous that these same people who preach vegetarianism go to great lengths to eat fake meat. If meat is wrong on any level, why pretend to eat it? SDA's might as well smoke fake cigarettes too. Again, I really believe this boils down to whatever publicity this group is after. They'll get noticed with their self righteous admonition on McDonalds. "Look at us, we're "health conscious!" What a load. Leigh Anne |

I agree Leigh Anne. One of their fake "meats" is even fake HAM."wham".If pork is so evil... why try to duplicate the taste ! ? BTW: I remember it as tasting like smoked kinda sweet cardboard. |

Colonel Sanders (Kentucky Fried Chicken) personally went to Spring Valley Academy in Centerville,OH and presented them with a check for the full amount of their Gymnasium wood floor. Woe beit to the one who brought a bucket of fried chicken to any SDA pot luck. |

I don't think it is so much about McDonald's coming there as it is they are losing the hold they have had on the town (sda). We have had the same thing in College Place, Washington which is also a sda town. They tried to keep Wal-Mart out and couldn't. I'd be interested to know how many other sda towns have been invaded. |

One wonders if Mcdonald's could stop an SDA church from being built? On a side note, I used to swing by the Del Taco on McCausland ave on the way home from church every saturday! Yum |

I still like some of the fake meat. The fake meat is there because people don't want to eat the real stuff. I'm still so used to the fake meat, but I just don't eat it that much. I don't need high blood pressure from all the sodium. The idea of eating real meat just bothers me though, I don't want to eat a dead animal. |

I don't want to eat them any other way but dead! I want to be assured that in the least they can't eat their way back out. River |

I agree with Leigh Anne, Publicity, even bad publicity to them is better than none. All they are doing is saying "Lookit us! How Holy we are! Bluick! |

I remember the day Mary (Helovesme2) said she realized with a start, "Who am I to think I know better than God? He's the one who gave us meat to eat." That really struck me profoundly. Given my SDA worldview, I ever actually thought about the biblical account as God giving us meat. I was always taught that He basically gave in and indulged a rebellious and sinful people and allowed them to eat meat. Genesis 9, however, clearly says something different. The real question is, Who am I to think I can interpret God's word to say what it doesn't say? Colleen |

Colleen, if you eat something and it eats its way back out, you'll know you might not shoulda oughta ate it. River Of course Phil is an old Marine, he'd slap it over a convenient 2x4, slap duct tape over the hole in his stomach and eat it again. |

Hey, I've got moral objections to using any old 2x4. Nail it to a cedar board and smoke it over an alder fire...then I'll eat it as long as it has stopped moving. Phil |

As far as the SDA kids eating meat...too late! There's always a pack of LL Academy students chowing down on hotdogs at Costco during lunch break! (They have Academy logos on their shirts...) Of course, it's not technically in LL, but pretty close... Yes, River, it's much easier eating the critters when they're dead! (Although we were raised to be repulsed by meat by calling it "dead rotting animal", etc.) Won't go into the etc, though! |

For several years (in our vegetarian days...) when I would go grocery shopping and pass the meat department, I used to think of it as a "morgue" for the bodies of dead animals. Now,it is just another source of food. As long as I don't put any real thought into it. LOL |

Actually it looks pretty much that way to me Skeeter, when I look at a T-bone I have to imagine it on a plate with the fat still sizzling and a baked potato, with corn and and spinach. Then when I get the picture I grab it and throw it in the bottom of the cart and try not to look at it until it's in the kitchen. When I look at vegies I think,"What am I a rabbit?" I don't get excited till I get to the bakery department. |

One of my SDA friends on Facebook posted this story recently. I replied that I'd take these outraged people seriously when they marched against Little Debbie and Worthington & Loma Linda. It was pretty much crickets in there after that. LOL! (Message edited by FreeofE on January 27, 2012) |
