Nitrous oxide was used as a "party game" (kind of like the hypnosis shows in Vegas) and, when a friend of Horace Wells hurt himself after using it and felt no pain...well, the dentist noticed and It became an early form of anesthesia! Dental patients were REALLY happy about this accidental discovery and experienced no side effects as per the IJ. |

LOL! I have a lot of patients that really appreciate nitrous... I'm sure they are very grateful for Horace Wells' discovery. I wonder why in hygiene school at LLU they didn't connect these events together? ;) vivian |
