Wow. I used to know one of the plaintiffs and his family while growing up, but I didn't know he had been fired. Of course none of this is really surprising. Cults will always use whatever means necessary (including coercion, law-breaking, etc.) to maintain control. Jeremy |

Wow here, too. One of the plaintiffs taught at my academy before going to La Sierra. Notice the interesting response to "Free Indeed"'s posting of a link to this website! FAF is too "fundamental" !....great post, Free Indeed!!! What a surprise that an organization begun in deception and error, built on a false foundation is in such a mess. |

I read many of the comments and can't figure out why people said that the fired employees were drinking alcohol and cussing. (Which cracks me up, btw!) The story is juicy, like a made-for-tv movie. But in real life, it's not surprising one bit. They're just doing what they know to do. Control. Guilt. Manipulate. Mar reputations. |

Why am I not surprised at the "bitter, negative, misguided" responses to Free's blog entry on the Spectrum site? This situation at La Sierra just seems so inevitable to me. A system that breeds perfectionism (and I don't only mean in a moral sense but in a performance sense) without offering the way to be acceptable (Jesus' sacrifice and resurrection life) will end up destroying the people upon whom it depends. It reminds me of a story in an old literature anthology from which I used to read the occasional story to my 10th graders at Gem State Academy. I do not remember either the author or the title of this story, but it was about a a man on a train who scandalized a child's grandmother by telling this fussy child this following story--with great results: There was a little girl who was so good she received medals honoring her goodness. She proudly wore those medals on her dress. This girl was wandering in the woods beyond her house one day, and there were wild animals in the woods. Frightened, she hid behind the trees in the woods, trying to stay out of reach of the wolves who were roaming the forest. As this girl moved behind the trees and bushes, trying hard to be unnoticed and oh-so-quiet, her medals for goodness clinked against each other--and the wolves, hearing the sound, found her, pounced on her, and devoured her. Horrid story...but I have often pondered the point. People and systems ultimately self-destruct when they're founded on appearances and perfectionism. As long as people feel they have to protect their own reputations and places under the sun, there's no solution. It's all from the "natural man". Interestingly, Jesus, who IS the righteousness of God, was grossly maligned and falsely accused...but Jesus did not defend Himself. Truth ultimately wins; the Light shines in the darkness. The darkness does not receive it, but those who do receive it see what it reveals. Colleen |

They didn't delete the comments, but they sure had something to say for the sake of their watching audience. "This is off-topic. Please refrain from 'evangelizing' in future posts or they will be deleted. - website editor" Sigh... Evangelizing? Hmmm...when did that become a four letter word? Colleen, great story! God does His work very well! I am leaving the LSU thread alone. |

"Jan Long - Mon, 08/01/2011 - 22:05 @Free Indeed I doubt that most objective people would have difficulty in concluding that Adventism, like all other human institutions, has flaws. But I am quite certain that the fundamentalism offered by Life Assurance Ministries, starting with biblical inerrancy, is not the answer--at least not for me." " For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear." 2 Timothy 4:3 "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness..." 2 Timothy 3:16 "...biblical inerrancy, is not the answer--at least not for me." The fruit of a salad bar belief system. "The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who SUPPRESS THE TRUTH by their wickedness..." Romans 1:18 |

One more thing and I'll let it go. Much of the arguing on that page went off topic. People are arguing about whether or not its ok to drink coffee or wine. No looser relation to the topic than the statements they reprimanded. The fact is that these situations are a part of what makes people leave. The comments were only offering them a way to sort through it all with others who have struggled with the unethical behavior of the organization. Seems on topic to me. |
