I think I'm finally getting to a better understanding of where I'm at, and the weirdness of our SDA upbringing. I've just ben doing a search in Facebook of SDA pages and reading a few comments. It seems like you have to join thesepages to make comments, which is a shame, as I don't want to sign up, for example, to "Fans of the SDA Church"! As I was flicking through the pages I found the following, very genuine, concern from a member:

'I've tatoos on my arms. Will God accept me in heaven. People say tatoos are the mark of the beast. I'm soo worried'

In years gone by, I may well have empathised with this guy's worries......now I just think it's sad. :-(

It is sad!!

Just think.... If the just the men in the story of Peter and the vision of the sheets were declared clean then the things and circumstances that made them unclean would no longer be unclean either. all things are permissable.... but all things are not expedient....

The longer I have been out, the weirder and more sad it all is. The anger and hurt over those who are hostile toward me has subsided and sadness has deeply set in. I still get upset but only when in direct contact with (or reading blasphemous quotes from) the spirit of Adventism. I get a very real chill when I sense the evil presence of such hostile deception.

Sigh...but the people...my heart really breaks for them- even and often especially for the ones who are angry and slanderous toward those who have left. They are prisoners of a dark system of deception and have such hard hearts toward the light of the Word of God that I feel such little hope.

Then I remeber, "Love hopes all things..." and I keep praying. God is big.

Free, I agree. It's just so much sadness and frustration...and then the blasphemous statements that sometimes come...

Only prayer can address these chasms created by opposing kingdoms.

Stevew; That person you quoted who was afraid because he has tattoos on his arms, was heartbreaking. I'm praying that God will lead him out of that horrible religion and that he finds out that salvation is REALLY a free gift, that there really isn't anything he can do of himself, to help save himself. I pray that he learn that tattoos won't do anything to his salvation and that ALL he needs to do is accept Jesus' finished work!

I got tired of all the talk about diet and dress. I really do think that we should try to be healthy and we don't need to make an idol out of dress. Yet all the obsession with it was ridiculous. I say just let the Holy Spirit lead people to do whatever is best for them, and leave the issues alone.

I am not sure what the Mark of the Beast really is. I did wonder if it was a microchip or something. I also heard that it was about what we do and how we think, not a real mark. I read a SDA book this year (If I Had a Bigger Drum) and the person wrote in the last chapter that people will have actual dark marks on them.

I do wonder what the real Mark of the Beast is.

That being said, I do doubt that the "Mark of the Beast" will be something visible. All that talk of dark marks showing up that some SDAs believed in, it doesn't make sense.

Personally, I think the "mark" that is supposed to be in the forehead or the hand... means what we believe and think/teach(forehead) and our actions (our hands) in how we treat others.
If we refuse truth in favor of believing a convenient lie and teach others those lies,,, if we by our actions do evil to our brothers and sisters and purposely lead them astray.... etc.
I dont know if that is right... but it is pretty much what I think at this time.
