Here's a really good article comparing Harold Camping with William Miller. I thought you all might enjoy it as much as Richard and I did. http://www.uwyo.edu/uw/news/2011/06/uw-religion-today-column-for-may-june-5-11-harold-camping-and-william-miller-soul-mates.html Colleen |

A conundrum Yep! Camping's an idiot, but what does that make me for having bought into a similar anti-biblical prediction? Out of the roughly two billion Christian 'believers' in the world today, how many of them are listening to some man (or woman) stating that only they can teach what the Bible is 'really' saying? What is it about human nature that makes us so susceptible to off-the-wall pseudo Christianity? Why are we so attracted to histrionic 'the sky is falling' theology? Ignorance? That's my excuse, ignoring the fact that I always…ah…er…carried the Bible. The Gospel is too simple?: 'Well yeah, Jesus is great but there's got to be more than just that'. Other? |

Pretty much that's it, John. Just Jesus is way too simple...but the implications are huge. Colleen |

That statement reminds me of a reply I had from an SDA seminarian (I guess that would be the bst way to describe someone who went through seminary but never decided to become a pastor) on CARM. The response really floored me in the utter contempt with which it described the message of the Gospel.
quote:One reason I'm glad I'm an SDA is that because we are already Christians we don't need to repeatedly go over the most simplest and basic of materials (what makes us Christians in the first place), such as: we are sinners and need to be saved from our sins, Christ already died for our sins..., and He rose again on the third day. At one school we had to watch a silent movie from the old days and then we were dismissed. As we were leaving a fellow student wondered out loud: "Why am I being treated like a three year old?"

Rick, that's horrifying. A person cannot know Jesus and have that reaction. Colleen |

Collen thought you might find this interesting as well. Particularly interesting are the comments as they are coming from both the JW side and the SDA. http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/150169/20110523/harold-camping-doomsday-second-coming-of-jesus-rapture-seventh-day-adventists-jehovah-witness-may-21.htm |
