While studying this morning a passage in Matthew caught my attention 7 As these men were going away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John, "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 8 "But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Those who wear soft clothing are in kings' palaces! 9 "But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and one who is more than a prophet. 10 "This is the one about whom it is written, 'BEHOLD, I SEND MY MESSENGER AHEAD OF YOU, WHO WILL PREPARE YOUR WAY BEFORE YOU.' Matthew 11:7-10 and brought to mind Ellen's claim: My work includes much more than this name signifies. (Letter 55, 1905, Selected Messages, Vol 1, pp. 35-36) ...my work includes much more than the word 'prophet' signifies. (Selected Messages, Vol 1, p. 32) My commission embraces the work of a prophet, but it does not end there. (Letter 244, 1906. Addressed to elders of Battle Creek church, Selected Messages, Vol 1, page 36) Apparently she considered herself as another John the Baptist, another Elijah. In conjunction with this I was perusing signs of a false prophet and came up with a couple that are applicable. The prophet 'PROFITS'. There will always be MONEY involved - YOURS God 'GIVES'. False prophets 'TAKE'. Braggadocio "LOOK AT WHAT I AM DOING FOR GOD". TRUE lovers of God use every opportunity to tell others what God has done for them. The Gospel is not about me, it's all about Jesus non-profit John |
