OK, I have to share one more thing. Richard came home from his men's Bible study this morning led by Gary Inrig. They're going through Exodus. Well, the thing he told me that was so amazing is this: The Feast of Pentecost throughout the Old Testament was a celebration of God's giving the Law on Mt. Sinai. In Acts 2, the Feast of Pentecost marked the new covenant fulfillment of that shadow: the giving of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit replaced the Law, and believers answer to the Lord Jesus through the Spirit now instead of the Law. I had not previously realized the Feast of Pentecost marked the giving of the Law. Well, I just opened an email devotional by Joseph Prince, and imagine the topic: the comparison of the OT Pentecost—the Law—and the NT Pentecost—the giving of the Spirit. I'll quote a bit: quote:But what happened after God gave them the law on the first Pentecost? Three thousand people died! (Exodus 32:28) Contrast this with another Pentecost in the New Testament. In the book of Acts, it says that when Pentecost had fully come, God gave not the law but the Holy Spirit, and what happened? Three thousand people got saved (Acts 2:41), which goes to show that “the letter [the law] kills, but the Spirit gives life”! The law, which was “written and engraved on stones”, ministered death. It killed 3,000 people. That is why the apostle Paul calls it “the ministry of death” and “the ministry of condemnation”. (2 Corinthians 3:7–9) On the other hand, the Spirit ministered life — 3,000 people got saved. My friend, when you come under the law by trying to keep God’s commandments in order to be blessed, it will lead to death. There will be deadness in your marriage, ministry, health, career… in your life. But when you depend on the Spirit of grace, it will lead to life. You will see breakthroughs and miracles (Galatians 3:5), and manifest the fruit of the Spirit.
How amazing. The giving of the Law was marked by a heinous sin—the golden calf—and 3,000 Israelites died. The giving of the Spirit was marked by 3,000 Jews (Israelites) being brought to eternal life by the Holy Spirit. My goodness...the Bible's details fit together so amazingly! Who knew?! Colleen |

Wow!!! I love it! SO much to study and (re-)learn. Joseph Prince?! That's the guy I heard once give the most AMAZING sermon on law vs. grace. Don't know much about him, but that sermon made my jaw drop. |

I remember seeing him as I was flipping channels a few times,,, never really watched since I have kind of an aversion to televangelists as it seems what little I have heard they are mostly making big promises for wealth, healing etc IF you will donate to their ministry.... So,,, is he a member of a certain denomination ? |
