This brings up the Loma Linda billboards that are all along the freeway on the way to Kaiser. They are to encourage women to fight breast cancer. I didn't pay much attention to them until I saw about 5 of them...then it sunk in: THIS is the message behind adventism. The boards all proclaim: "Empower Yourself!" I've seen the phrase on the billboards, but I did not stop to think about it. You are absolutely right! Empower Yourself! That describes their entire health message (and their supposed ability to enhance their perception of the Holy Spirit). It describes their just-below-the-surface continual striving to manage and follow the money. It describes the subtle but powerful internal "caste system" with MD at the top of the cast structure and MDiv somewhere just below the top...It explains their hospital systems and school systems... Wow.
