This is hard to watch. I was so upset and wanted to just cry while I watched this. Listen to the lyrics!! It is SDA prosperity gospel. I am still shaking.

They hook people with laughter and entertainment. I am sick...

Interesting how SDAs can dance when they want to! So it's OK to dance if it's to promote tithe-giving?! Hypocrisy.

Hi

As a former SDA I know there are many false doctrines taught by the Adventist Church. However I don't want to falsely accuse them of something they haven't done in regards to this video. The video shown at the above link is NOT from an Adventist church. This is from New Hope Christian Fellowship in Oahu, Hawaii. Wayne Cordeiro is the senior pastor of this Bible-believing church. Pastor Cordeiro is briefly shown at the end of the video. I just wanted to clear that up.

Also in our effort to avoid legalism we don't want to throw out the baby with with the bathwater when it comes to giving financially to the Lord. Giving DOES NOT gain us our salvation or favor with the Lord but we should want to give just out of gratitude to Jesus for all He has done for us. After all everything we have is a gift from the Lord because He loves us.

Thanks, Deb. It WAS posted on an SDA facebook.

It's pretty cool to be a new covenant Christian and out from under all the tithe guilt. It's totally different and we give joyfully now and don't have to stop at 10 per cent!! Knowing the real gospel just makes you happy to give. And I don't think I've ever heard the word "tithe" mentioned at our new church!

I just read this morning about Abraham giving a tenth of all the goods he had recovered when he rescued Lot. Gen 14:17-20. This is a very interesting passage in light of the NT & NC. While there is no mandate or command, a tenth was given.

:-) True enough. Abraham gave a tenth - of the spoils of war - and then gave the rest of the spoils back to the king of the city he had saved. Somehow that is not the 'tithe precedent' I originally thought it was.

Let me clarify, I was not out to make false accusations of the church in this post, but to share further evidence of their prosperity teaching. I simply shared what I found them promoting on their webpage. It doesn't mater to me who created it, I think it is very wrong. I am completely in agreement that we are to give to God. My issue is with what is being said in the video.

I have no problem with people giving 10% off the top. I have no problem with people attending Saturday services, but I have a problem when anyone, SDA or not, is teaching that these things are necessary to be in right standing with God.

In their entertaining, they clearly said that if you give "10% off the top" you will be "right with God". If you have ever been in a situation where you and your family are going without because you trust your church leaders and do this, you can understand how heart breaking it is to see other peole falling for it in their time of need as well.

No matter who promotes a false teaching, it is wrong. I really wasn't looking for one more way to isolate SDAs, I was simply shaken by the false teaching and the fact that it is so promoted by the SDAs (who happen to be leading my family members away from truth, so I am sensative to what they are doing). There are many prosperity teachings that do not come from the SDA church.

One thing I am realizing, the more entertaining the delivery, the easier it is to get away with teaching something wrong. When the delivery is destracting, you can slip almost anything in there in jest.

What I find interesting about any church that preaches a prosperity message is that if they would stop and realize Who it ALL belongs to, their efforts might stop. If I'm His, then everything I have in my possession really belongs to Him, He's just providing it to me to use how He see's fit. :-)

I agree with you Free2dance. It does not matter what church is pushing tithing as it is not in the NT. As my pastor says it is between you and God not between you and the church whether you give or not or how much.
Dljc, you are right it all belongs to God to start with. I am so glad that He chooses to share everything he has with us unconditionally All he asks for is our undying love for him.

Great post, Free...it DOES say that bit about "right with God"! No, tithing doesn't do that, Jesus DID that on the cross! And they ARE promoting it if they place it on their website.

As a loyal sda, with a 4 y.o. and a baby, we faithfully gave our tithe, but God didn't pour out financial blessings on us as the church promised and we had very little money to spend on groceries and I would have had no decent clothes if my mother had not bought them for me. Now I know why--we were giving to a false-gospel religion. However, we never starved and soon after, God in His mercy sent the first person in our lives to share what the real gospel is...(we still believed in everything else but the IJ & EGW). And, looking back, that was worth much more than money!

PS The reason we were so poor is that the sda institution my husband worked for paid him such a skimpy salary, but we thought that we were doing our part for the church.
