Either: 1. A person has to be as good as God - and that includes ALL their life. They can't have EVER sinned. Or: 2. A person has to accept Jesus atonement for their sins. All of the cults try to combine these two. Even Islam teaches that a person can be saved if their "good" works outweigh their bad works. Ellen White taught that it's a combination of our "own diligent effort" and Jesus' grace. (You can find that quote easily by going to the E.G.White estate and typing in own diligent effort in the search box and then click on "cached.") Either a person is in Christ or they're standing in their own filthy rags. Some verses are: Romans 10:3,4; Romans 1:17; Philippians 3:9 Legalists will read and gasp, thinking; "then how can a person be good?!?!" A legalist doesn't understand grace and the work of the Holy Spirit. |
