Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above: ) Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:1-13) We are saved by grace through faith. Faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross. There is nothing we can "do" to earn it except "accept" it on faith that Jesus has done all that is needed to reconcile us with Him. Grace is said to be "Unmerited favor", we deserve what the law requires, death, but Jesus has already paid the way for us. This is something the SDA church doesn't want you to know. Because they believe we can earn our way in just like the Jews Paul is talking about in the first part of this passage. Does this mean we have a license "to" sin? No. Allow Him to show you the areas you need healing in. | ||

Dljc, I believe this describes Adventism like no other scripture. I believe in my heart that one could just replace the word Israel with Adventist and safely do so. Paul's prayer to God for Israel is the same prayer I have been praying for my Adventist friends for quite some time. Thank you for bringing this scripture to my attention. It is pure meat and potato's for me today. This scripture speaks volumes to me about so many different matters. I love it when God speaks to my heart in his word, not only does it re-confirm my own salvation, but gives me hope for others. River | ||

Ellen White and the church establishing their own rules for Sabbath keeping, food rules, movie, appearance and dancing rules, music rules, "guarding the edges of the sabbath" rules, clapping and behaving in church rules and ultimately rules for achieving perfection. Diana, you have "hit it on the head". Adventists will protest, "That's outrageous! We do teach Jesus," but in fact, the Jesus they teach is not the Jesus of the Bible. Their jesus laid aside some of His "divine power"; he could have sinned, could have failed, could have torn the cosmos and the trinity apart by sinning or by not succeeding to go through with the crucifixion. The Adventist Jesus had a "fallen nature"; He showed us how to "overcome" sin while living with a fallen nature. He was "just like us" in every respect, so, from their perspective, He was body-plus-breath, without an immaterial spirit separate from his body. The Adventist Jesus ceased to exist while in the tomb; even his "deity" was unconscious and imprisoned in the tomb with his dead body. The Jesus of Scripture—the Jesus of reality, however, was utterly sinless, possessed of a living spirit from conception. He laid aside NONE of His deity, only His divine privilege. Paul tells us all the fulness of deity dwelt in Him bodily (Col 1:19, 2:9). His living spirit went to God upon His death; His identity and His deity did not cease to exist or become quiescent. In fact, Peter tells us that His Spirit was active during His death (1 Peter 3:19). The Lord Jesus is not the jesus of Adventism. That Jesus is meek, mild, and somehow the "nice" face of God. The biblical Jesus is Almighty God who demanded death for sin—and who died the very death He demanded in our place. Colleen | ||

Colleen, you said it so well--with regards to the real Jesus that I've come to know. And yes, Diana, I know all about 'establishing my own righteousness'. I don't think it is any accident that upon my coming to know the real Jesus of the Bible, I've come to love and want to worship Him more than ever before. Honestly, as an Adventist, I am now going to put into words the underlying current in my mind: Jesus died for me, to give me a second chance. Thanks Jesus. But I'm doing half of the job here by keeping the 10 commandments... Hence why I never really felt like praising God. Worship time at home and in church was just blankly opening and closing your mouth in 'praise' with the people around you, just half-heartedly. Yet, despite feeling like I was doing half the job--I knew I never measured up. That was the discouraging part. Never felt that I could acheive that perfection required to be saved. The real Jesus that I'm coming to know now is: WOW, Amazing, He really did THAT for me, and even gives me the Holy Spirit too. You just HAVE to open your mouth and praise God | ||

Mkfound, first of all, welcome!! You really are echoing my exact feelings about this when you said "Hence why I never really felt like praising God. That is how I can describe any sda church service that I can remember!! I have recently been attending the most awesome church in my area. It is non-denominational, and it is FULL of Jesus. The messages are so good, I want to tell EVERYONE to come! I can't wait till the next time I can be there to hear what God has for me! My sister and I were talking last night about that, and she said "It's the GOOD NEWS!" We can finally understand what the good news is, and it is NOT adhering to the doctrines of ellen g. white. A friend and I were commenting last night on how our children are actually talking about God and bringing home things they are learning. She said her daughter said "mom, God really helped me in such and such a way", and her younger brother said "Oh, God helps me all the time like that!" What a contrast to how one feels in a legalistic religion!! I was EMBARRASSED to talk about Jesus when I was a child. It seemed so weird, so foreign, so fake. When you finally do understand, even a little, what the Good News is about, you really do want to share it with everyone! You want people you care about to get it too! My biggest struggle right now is to sit through a sermon and listen just for me. A lot of the time I think about this or that person, and how much they would get out of hearing this "good news". I just have to pray that I focus on my own walk. I keep praying that He will soften hearts of those I love and draw them to Him!
