We were sent a baptismal study guide for kids. I think it was sent because if we cannot understand EGW, then maybe a child's baptismal guide is clearer and may clarify our issues with the sda church. On one side is a series of short questions with scripture references. At the bottom is a section where the child signs a pledge and the instructer signs next to them. On the back of the page is "additional study". They had a short summary of "what is baptism", "who can be baptized," and "mode of baptism." This is what was written under the "who can be baptized" section.
quote:Who Can be Baptized All who fulfill the required conditions. Among these are: Believe in the Lord Jesus. (Acts 8:36-38) To repent of all sins. (Acts 2:38) Confess sin. (Proverbs 28:13) Know the doctrine. (Matthew 28:30) Practice the doctrine. (Matthew 7:21) Request the rite of baptism. (Acts 8:36) As these principles are applied it is evident that a small child could not be baptized. But we feel a junior who understands the doctrine could be baptized. Furthermore, any person can be baptized who has reached the age of accountability. If we have been baptized without our knowledge, without a full understanding of the truth, in a wrong manner, or if we have left the truth, the Bible authorizes a rebaptism. (Acts 19:1-5)
ugh... don't know where to start.... "know the doctrine" and "practice the doctrine"? If the doctrine comprises the Investigative Judgment, can a "junior" really comprehend the Investigative Judgment? Is this really baptism into Christ? ... so many questions. ... but since we've "left the truth", I want all of you to know that the "Bible authorizes a rebaptism"! ... now that's good news! vivian |

Oh, my goodness, Vivian! For that matter, can ANYONE really "know" and "practice" the doctrine? I never knew an Adventist who really practiced it all...although the few I knew who appeared to be close to internalizing Adventism were pretty brittle and cranky and angry. Colleen |

That's something that also shows that Adventism isn't Christian, because Christians are Sealed with the Holy Spirit when they're saved (Ephesians 1:13,14) and the FRUITS of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, etc. Adventists have to work hard all their lives and then they still don't make it because they don't (they cannot because of their beliefs) put their weight down on what Jesus did for them. NO WONDER they're sad and brittle and angry!!! Those older people at that campmeeting I wrote about were that way. It grieves me to think of their fate - working hard their whole lives, and then losing out on Heaven! |

Asurprise, When you said, "It grieves me to think of their fate - working hard their whole lives, and then losing out on Heaven! " It made me think of the Message version of Romans 6:21-23.
But now that you've found you don't have to listen to sin tell you what to do, and have discovered the delight of listening to God telling you, what a surprise! A whole, healed, put-together life right now, with more and more of life on the way! Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. But God's gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by Jesus, our Master. Romans 6:21-23 (Message) Paul Cross |
