Here is an article from the online magazine, The Sabbath Pulpit. It was apparently written in June of this year, and while it "takes on" Calvinism, in actual fact, this article reveals Adventism's unswerving commitment to the great controversy theme whether or not it disagrees with the biblical gospel. I'd love to hear your responses to this...and this is current. Those who try to say Adventism is "changing" are either uninformed or intentionally obfuscating. Colleen, that's a good article to show how Christianity and Adventism just don't and can't mix. I'm not a Calvinist, but I see how they don't seem to be able to coexist. I was told by my SDA friend "And if your insisting on staying in denial that's OK too." If I can just keep him talking to me, I'll show him how that right there shows that Adventism is not Christian. If it was, then I wouldn't be in denial would I? |

Eph 2:1 ...dead in trespasses and sin. Very little more needs to be said. As long as adventists deny that, they will be forever thinking that Christ "made it possible" for us to be saved. The adventist has to decide, to accept, to grow, to do his part, to keep the law, and to eventually face God without a Mediator. At that point, adventism is totally a Christless religion. This is semi-pelagianism, a heresy that has been steadfastly condemned by the Christian church for almost 1500 years. I could have wished that adventist pioneers had read a bit more--this would have been an important heresy to avoid. Adventism is a religion of self-improvement by following examples and exhortations, not a religion of the cross. Michael Horton pointed out that Jesus, Peter, and Paul all tried to shift this focus. Jesus, on the road to Damascus, explained "all that was said in the scriptures concerning himself . . . (Luke 24:27) Peter said that the chief message of the entire old testament is "the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow" (1Peter 1:10,11) and Paul said "He has been made for us our righteousness, holiness and redemption. (1 Cor 1:28-31). Bob |

I get two things from the article: 1. Calvinism Vs. Adventism? I though it was Calvinism Vs. Arminianism. So we have gone up the totem pole, hah? 2. That article seems to be a call to go back to the original foundations. Back to EGW (read Steps to Christ instead of Experiencing God. Back to using The Great Controversy Theme as a hermeneutical key to interpret everything. Otherwise we will continue to drift wondering why we even exist as a people. Maybe Wilson already started his descent toward 150 years ago. May be good for those still entrapped for they may see what SDA is really about and get out. I don't know, maybe they can't because of the veil. Hec |

I posted a brief comment...I have to shake my head when the writer said that the Great Controversy theme is to be the hermeneutic for the study of important issues Yikes whatever happened to the the Bible being the best hermeneutic tool? |

Bobj-- The comment you made ("Adventism is a religion of self-improvement by following examples and exhortations, not a religion of the cross.") is so spot on! How many times have we heard "The health message saved my life" or "The educational system pulled me out of poverty," or "The Sabbath saved me from being a workaholic." Where is Jesus in this? Okay...going to read the article now and google pelagianism. |

Bobj-- The comment you made ("Adventism is a religion of self-improvement by following examples and exhortations, not a religion of the cross.") - we should have this in Encyclopedia. |

This is just sad... The author doesn't uphold scripture alone! Scripture is to be read through the looking glasses of Ellen. I found it interesting that he made a comment about going to the evangelicals for Jesus, and to the SDAs for the Law. He calls SDAs to START preaching Jesus. That alone should be a HUGE red flag for the SDA "Christians". |

BTW: His call is for Jesus to be preached "in the context" of what they believe (EGW). That leaves A LOT of Jesus out! EGW isn't just a replacement for scripture, she is a replacement for Jesus! She doesn't point to Jesus, she usurps Him! Salvation for SDAs isnt about what Jesus did, it's about what Ellen's secret information teaches! Not to mention how she places herself in place of Jesus in "Testimonies" quoting from Hebrews! (See the next issue of Proclamation!, Dale's article shows us this.) These folks are going to be shocked...horrified! Like many of us were- but hopefully before that great and glorious Day!! |

Ugh. Without mentioning adventism, Michael Horton wrote that sentence about people who are interested in a religion of self improvement. I grabbed it and applied it to adventism, hoping to teach, not to make a grand statement! I mentioned him in the next sentence, but failed to link the previous comment to him. Should have made it more clear. My bad. Bob |

Bob, I googled the article with the Michael Horton quote. I skimmed it and sounds excellent. Can't wait to read the whole thing. Thanks for applying his quote to Adventism for us. |

Bobj-- The comment you applied - "Adventism is a religion of self-improvement by following examples and exhortations, not a religion of the cross." would be a good one for the 'Billboard' thread. :-) J9 |

I went to "www.sabbathpulpit.com" and found only this amusing message: "We have recently had another database corruption. This time we have a recent backup. I will get it back up as soon as I get enough time. Forgive us for the inconvenience. We are not sure when we will be able to get this site back up." It's too bad they haven't a clue about the real "corruption" in their database! :-) |
