Hi friends, back after many years. Can you recommend any websites or books that clarify the idea that we indeed do have a soul? Thanks! |

Maybe, that is wrongly put: we have a soul, like we are something else. The question is Who we are ? flesh or spiritual identity, that can have some tent on self. So, you dont need books just to have new view point on mater. |

Just a thought here. Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (Mat 22:36-40) Jesus wouldn't have said it that way if we didn't have one. |

I think that "soul" is a term used in bout things, but with a different meaning. I think that Krista question is on subject that SDAs think that soul is mortal : body + breath, and Christians means that soul is eternal living without body, like in heaven etc. Maybe am wrong..... |

Gorancroatia, You are right! I am trying to explain that we are more than just a breath; and how the SDA's idea of the state of the dead isn't biblical, in my humble opinion. Thx! |

Krista, Following is a link regarding The State of the Dead by Pastor J. Mark Martin taken from the ex-Adventist.com site. I think it will be helpful. http://www.exadventist.com/Home/Dead/tabid/56/Default.aspx Pat |

Also, here are a couple of past Proclamation issues which address the subject: http://www.lifeassuranceministries.org/proclamation/2008/4/index.html http://lifeassuranceministries.org/Proclamation2004_SepOct.pdf The passage in John 4:24-26 where Jesus is talking to the woman at the well is instructive. He said true worshipers are to worship in spirit and truth because God is spirit. God is not mere "breath". He is God—and God is spirit. If a person takes the words of Scripture to mean what they actually say, passages like 2 Corinthians 1-10, Philippians 1:22-23, and Luke 23:46 come alive. Colleen |

Pat, I appreciate that link and I'll share it. I just can't understand how sda doctrines are biblical, yet others who don't agree are also biblical. I'm not trying to convince this person, just show different sides, you know? Krista |

Krista, the link Pat gave was extremely helpful to me when trying to explain this issue to a newly former SDA. I LOVE what Jesus says to Martha (or was it Mary?) after Lazarus dies concerning the eternal life of those who believe in Him. Check out the greek language that Mark Martin unpacks! AMAZING! It is at the end of the document. |

Hi, Late last night I had an interesting thought, and perhaps I had read this somewhere... If soul sleep were that important, why isn't it stated clearly in the bible, such as: "when a person dies, they are unconscious...." etc. I don't see anything like this in the bible!! |

I'll just make a simple statement that may or may not be helpful: God says we are created in His image. God is One Essence with three identified parts. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Since we are created in God's image we are also of necessity One being with three parts. Ross the Body Ross the Soul (Body plus Spirit) Ross the Spirit |

It is interesting subject to grasp. Mybe some Greek words will hep us...because, Soul is used like be some part of us (not mind, and not body), and on the other hand, Soul have everlasting atributes, in heaven and hell.Is it the same word in Greek? |

With no continuous stream of awareness the resurrection is not possible, there could only be a recreation of the person being duplicated. Here is a simple thought experiment that demonstrates a biblical truth. Imagine that you are cloned, (representing you at the resurrection) this person has had all your memories implanted in them. You meet the person (your clone) and interview her, she knows all you do perfectly. Would you then allow yourself to be killed? If you are like most people you are hearing your soul cry out NO WAY, this is the soul and spirit crying out I am more than a body with memories. Check out Acts 17:26 the spirit is placed in a person at birth in the best time and place for salvation. This is a hard text for soul death advocates because it denotes some level of substance in a soul even at birth. |

Great metaphor with the "clone conversation", Willy. Colleen |
