Just wanted to share a passage out of the Message paraphrase: "13-14 The Master said: "These people make a big show of saying the right thing, but their hearts aren't in it. Because they act like they're worshiping me but don't mean it, I'm going to step in and shock them awake, astonish them, stand them on their ears. The wise ones who had it all figured out will be exposed as fools. The smart people who thought they knew everything will turn out to know nothing." 15-16 Doom to you! You pretend to have the inside track. You shut God out and work behind the scenes, Plotting the future as if you knew everything, acting mysterious, never showing your hand. You have everything backward! You treat the potter as a lump of clay." I really like this! | ||

Hec, I totally get that! You know, I have been out of SDAism for 9 months now and this is the first time I have cracked the Message. I am finally able to accept it as a worshipful paraphrase but will not go to it for Bible study. Not saying I am right for that, but it's where I am at on the issue right now.  | ||

Here it is in the ESV: 13 And the Lord said:"Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men, 14 therefore, behold, I will again do wonderful things with this people, with wonder upon wonder; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden." 15 Ah, you who hide deep from the LORD your counsel, whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, "Who sees us? Hey, I use the Message too for devotional reading. It's a paraphrase unlike the Clear Word which claims to be a paraphrase but is an "added phrase". Hec | ||
