I was studying Romans 8 this week. Today I was so blown away. I made two colums in my notebook, one side,
(A)those who live according to the sinful nature,(trapped by the law)
B)those who live according to the Spirit,(set free by the Lamb)

I copied verses from the entire chapter that discussed the difference....It is well worth the time, I highly recommend it!

I was reminded again of how much God has done for me in setting me free from the Law of sin and death.

The pure gospel never gets old, it gets better.

Romans is exactly the book that made me understand SALVATION. It was in reading through Romans that I got baptized by the Holy Spirit and eventually left adventism.

Same for me.

When I finally believed (understood) Romans Eight I was no longer an adventist in thought.

PS
Each time I come back to this chapter I find more to learn.

Romans keeps getting clearer and clearer! I think sometimes the veil has several layers! At least for us formers! I used to read it and get excited about Romans 8:1 and no more condemnation. I still get moved by that, but the focus and excitement is now less about what I left behind, and more about the fullness of the gospel, ie, life according to the Spirit!

Raising holy hands with you animal, phil and Sunni!

...Sunni, it was John and Luke that brought me to Salvation and baptism by the Holy Spirit, but Romans was where I understood the futility and sin of legalistic striving.

I just realized that I was raised to believe that Romans was too hard to understand, and it was too confusing. I wonder if that is a common Adventist thought???

Not just Romans, but all of Paul is considered "hard to understand" and they even quote Peter on that.

I can't remember any sermons on Romans, especially Romans 8 as an SDA. When I heard Pastor Mark Martin explain it via tape I was blown away. What a mighty God we serve.

Chuck Colson on his radiio program is going thru Romans right now and it's such a blessing.

Neither death nor life......shall be able to separate us from the Love of God thru Christ Jesus our Lord. I'm so glad I know I'm His

On reading this thread it appears to me that nothing was preached about Romans 8 as an sda. That tells me that some one, in the seminary knew what would happen to the members if it was preached on. So it was never emphasized and unless the students learn it, they do as they are told. So we never heard it in church. BUT some one knew what it was about. How far back I am not sure or even if I am right. Just my opinion.

Anyone go to Graham Maxwell SS classes in Loma Linda? Wasn't his area of major study the book of Romans? How did he handle Romans 8? I know SDAs who went to LLU who received Maxwell's tapes for years after leaving there.

Last quarter's SDA lesson's were on the book of Romans...well, sort of.

Anyway, when they came to chapter eight, they only covered the first half of the chapter and based it on a false understanding of chapter seven.

In the mean time, they were 'all over the map' with massive proof texting used to alter the clear understanding of what Paul was teaching in this epistle.

Romans 8! Oh, my! Did we have a sermon in Romans 8 today. We had a feast on Romans 8. No trying to explain how the law still stands and dilute the message of Justification by faith. Not trying to add something to justification by faith. Just pure WORD, no Ellen quotes. Rich! Encouraging!
