Dragonfly, you have not told us any of your story. I assume you have a Bible. Have you been reading it? Or have you been studying from literature or other studies you've gotten somewhere? You need to actually read the Bible and ask God to teach you the truth that He wants you to know. Start with the book of John...and begin at the beginning. At the same time, read the book of Galatians--read it every day for a month, asking God to show you what He wants you to know. Read Ephesians 1 and 2. We do not call upon the Holy Spirit to show us the way. We call upon the Lord Jesus. We have to realize that we are by nature sinners doomed to death. We are born with a death sentence on us. We are wrong; we are needy. Jesus came and died as payment for our sin (Rom. 3:21-26; John 3:16-18). When we realize we are utterly without hope and without access to God, we repent to Him and accept Jesus' blood as our payment for our sin and surrender our lives to Him. We ask Him to be our Savior and to be our Lord, and we place our trust in Him instead of in our law-keeping. When we have placed our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus and accepted His blood as our Sacrifice for all our sin, He seals us with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit indwells us and brings our dead spirits to life (Eph 1:13-14; Rom 8:14-18). God adopts us as His children and we become His heirs with Jesus. When we have been born again by the Holy Spirit, that indwelling Holy Spirit giving us life in our previously dead spirit is the clean heart He has promised. It is never our own understanding or practice or belief that gives us a new heart; rather, it is actually God Himself who gives us Himself, and even though we are still in sinful flesh, our spirits are alive with the life of God, and we are counted righteous in God's sight. Our lives are hidden with Christ in God (Col 3:3), and now, when God looks at us, He has to see Jesus before He sees us because we are hidden IN Christ. God credits to our account Jesus Himself--His own personal righteousness. We are never credited with righteousness in ourselves. We are credited with Christ's own righteousness. From that point on we live by the Spirit, as Romans 8 describes. We submit our temptations and dreams and desires to the Lord Jesus, and He gives us what we need. We give up to Him our "Rights" to be "right", to have justice from other people, to control other people, to indulge our lusts. In giving these things up to the Lord Jesus, the indwelling Holy Spirit then gives us peace, joy, and righteousness from God Himself. He gives us the eyes to see and the ears to hear the words of Scripture and to live by them. But we do these things by His power and through surrender to Him. Colleen |

Thank you I will do that. I have only finished the OT. Grace_alone I thank you for showing me something I never notice. I am sorry I had no intention of discouraging anyone from celebrating Christ. Thank you for reproving my mistake. I am truly embarassed that I never seen it that way before. Please pray that what I accepted in faith I do not take and try to finish on my own accord. For I am aware there would be no such thing. |

I will be praying for you, Dragonfly. We forgive you, or at least I know I do. You will find that the NT answers these questions in a systematic and consistent way. I recommend starting with Galatians, which was the first NT book written, and was specifically written by Paul to deal with the issues you are raising here. |

Dragonfly; I'd like to repeat what Bskillet said earlier. The Bible says (Colossians 2:16,17) to "let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a FESTIVAL (feast) or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a SHADOW of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ." |

Bskillet I just finished Galatians with Ernest prayer to not read into it what I want. To teach the law is to teach of and empty saviour. It is faith that Christ promise to restore us. Is this correct. Is Galatians telling me if I teach the law yet am not perfect in it my self then I am only trying to exult my self. |

What really stands out Galatians 17 Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no good. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may have zeal for them. How can I trust my self that I am not just saying these things to built my self up? |

quote:To teach the law is to teach of and empty saviour.
Yes, Paul says in Gal. 2:15-21 that he cannot go back to living by the Old Covenant Law, because through the Law he died in Jesus' death, and was raised to a new life in Jesus' resurrection. Thus, if Paul were to go back to living by the Law, he would be denying that Jesus had died for his sins and gave Paul a new life. So Paul concludes, "I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died for nothing" (Gal. 2:21). If Paul were to live by the Law, he would be setting aside the grace of God that came in Jesus Christ. He would be trampling Christ and regarding Jesus' shed blood as profane (Heb. 10:29). quote:It is faith that Christ promise to restore us.
The only way any one has ever been counted righteous before God is by faith in Him, trust in His promises. Not be keeping the Old Covenant Law or good works or anything else. Paul says in Galatians 3:24 that those who believe in Jesus are "justified by faith." The word "justified" in Greek means we are "declared innocent." Jesus died for our sins. So our sins are no longer remembered by God. He has no recollection of them, so thus He declares us innocent who have faith in Jesus Christ. Paul shows in Galatians 3 that Abraham was justified by faith before the Law was ever given. Because Abraham was justified by faith when he didn't even have the Law, then that means that the Law is not the way a person is justified before God. Abraham never kept the feasts that you were mentioning earlier, because he didn't have the Law. Nonetheless, God declared Abraham innocent before Him, and Abraham was called God's friend. quote:Is Galatians telling me if I teach the law yet am not perfect in it my self then I am only trying to exult my self.
No one has ever kept the Law perfectly except for Jesus Christ. In keeping the Old Covenant perfectly, He fulfilled its requirements. One a contract has been fulfilled, it is no longer in force. Then, in dying for our sins, He became the curse for our imperfection (Gal. 3:13), so that the Law could not kill us twice. It already killed us once in Jesus Christ. Thus, Jesus fulfilled the obedience to the Old Covenant Law, and He fulfilled its death sentence upon us. It is therefore completely fulfilled and is no longer in force over us. Our flesh does not want Christ. It wants itself. So it wars against Him. It wants the Law, rather than Christ, because in the Law it can convince itself that it is righteous, good, and holy in itself. Thus, it can try to prove to itself that it has no need of Christ. And the more people that it brings under this false doctrine, the more pleased it is with itself. That is why Jesus said, "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are" (Matt. 23:15). It is fleshly to demand that the New Covenant Christian is responsible for the Old Covenant Law. That is why we reacted so strongly against such teaching.
quote:How can I trust my self that I am not just saying these things to built my self up?
Oh, you can't trust yourself. None of us can. The Bible tells us to test everything, and hold fast to what is good. You have to test what you believe by Scripture, and you have to ask the Holy Spirit to teach you all truth. He will. And He will give you peace with it. You will make mistakes from time to time. We all do. But God always forgives, and He is not weakened by our imperfections. But keep studying and keep praying for His guidance. I believe He is already showing you things that you haven't understood before. (Message edited by bskillet on August 31, 2010) |

Dragonfly, thank you for not running away but continuing to dialog with us! Bskillet's post above is very good. Here's how you can know you're not just building yourself up: Jesus said that when we believe He died for our sin and accept Him as our Savior and Lord, we will be saved. When we are saved, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit (Eph 1:13-14), and the Holy Spirit testifies with our spirit that we are children of God (Romans 8:14-16). Jesus says that when this "new birth" happens, we pass from death to life (John 4:25). We are eternally alive! The Lord Jesus is asking you to trust Him and to surrender yourself to Him as your only hope and your Savior. If you want to understand Jesus and who He is and what He did better, read the book of John. I believe the Lord Jesus IS revealing Himself to you--and when you see your true nature and His amazing love, you will bow before Him in repentance and acceptance of His sacrifice and life. With prayers for you, Colleen |
