When I was an Adventist, the main attraction of Heaven was the things I could DO, such as the galaxies I could explore, the food I could eat, the stuff I could do, etc. Now I've noticed that the main attraction is GOD, Himself! When I was an Adventist, God was attractive, but He was secondary to everything else. |

I guess I never really thought about it that way. But now that you nudged me, I remember thinking how fun it would be to pet lions, and to not have physical pain, among other "perks"! Now I just want to be with my wonderful God, to thank Jesus for His amazing love, for caring about me even through the bitter and rebellious times, the dark periods of my life, and never giving up on me! He saved me by His horrible death! What love! |

I truly look forward to that one on one, face to face encounter with my Saviour. I want to kiss His hands and feet and just say, 'thank You'! Pat |

Well, as an SDA,the thought of meeting God was intimidating. Would I be good enough? prayers were in "KJV" language, if at all possible, you had to kneel, close your eyes, etc,so it didn't make God seem like someone you'd want to spend a lot of time with. Easier to think about playing with lions and bears! But then I'd feel guilty for feeling that way... |

Thinking about heaven reminds me of a song, "Finally Home" Just think of stepping on shore and finding it heaven, Touching a hand and finding it God's, Breathing new air and finding it celestial, Waking up in glory and finding it home! (SDAs changed the last line to "Arriving up in glory") |

I used to image in heaven as a big garden (like in the My Bible Friends picture books)... with everyone with wings and a white robe on, walking alongside lions and tigers. But when I realized that heaven is this earth without sin and decay, that's more exciting to me. I image life in Heaven being more like being like our lives on earth minus the bad stuff (do I need to elaborate on the bad stuff, I think we're all pretty familiar with it). So we still have cities, and transportation, and INTERNET!!! And ballgames and restaurants and traveling and hanging out with friends and family... and food. Lots of great food and dessert that doesn't make you fat. Anytime I start thinking, "Man, will I ever afford to go to Fiji or South Africa?" I start telling myself that, if not, in the earth made new, I will get to travel there and not have to pay for my flight or hotel or worry about dying when I want to dive off a cliff into the ocean or swim in deep waters without scuba gear. I believe it will all still be there, just in its perfect state....and free. Definitely the God that loves to see His creation enjoying life and enjoying the things He created for us to enjoy (people, FOOD, exploration) is a different God than the one I imagined in my childhood. This one is smiling because I'm enjoying Him and all the goodness He created for my enjoyment...He's not sitting up there commanding my guardian angel to write down everything I do wrong. |

Heaven/new earth Seems like Cloudwater likes FOOD. It just came to my mind that in heaven/new earth there will be no death. Would that apply to animals too? In that case will we be killing animals for food? (By the way, I eat anything in front of me before it eats me.) Just a thought. |

Hmmm, I think the no death thing aplies to animals...I mean if the lion will eat straw, and lay down with a lamb, i doubt we'll be eating meat either. I trust there'll be something equally yummy to replace it. Does anyone here believe pets go to Heaven? I know the Bible doesn't say, but I like to think they do. Mostly, though, what I look forward to in the new earth is not being in pain, and being able to walk normally, even run-whatever I want. It will be awesome to do stuff again, like horseback riding, and hiking, that i miss so much now. And things like rock climbing that i never got to try, and can't do now... |

On the subject of food & heaven what do you make of this verse? 1Cor 6:13 "You say 'Food is for the stomach & the stomach is for food.' This is true though someday God will do away with both of them." Several versions say 'destroy' rather than 'do away with.' Maybe not only will we not eat meat. . . . . ! On the other hand the tree of life will have 12 different kinds of fruit - or is that all 'symbolic'?? cause it's in Revelation? Jesus did say that we would be like angels - therefore no marriage. . . . so do angels not eat?! J9 |

The first we know of meat-eating is after the Flood, when plants hadn't yet had time enough to produce fruit. In Genesis 18, three visitors, assumed to be God and 2 angels, called on Abraham, who immediately prepared a calf and other foods for them and they ate. I do not believe we will eat meat in heaven, since death entered earth only after sin, and meat was apparently not given for food until after the Flood. With the abundance of other healthful foods in heaven/New Earth, why would we even want dead animals for food? Pets? No light on this! But here's what I think: I'd really enjoy seeing my beloved pets again. But if they are not with us in the hereafter, we may not even remember them, since this would bring us pain. All our tears will be wiped away. Maybe we will not remember our "lost" human loved ones either! Anyone have light on this? |

I have no idea about meat eating or pets. I figure I will be so happy to see my Saviour face to face that none of that will mean anything to me. The only thing that will matter is being with Jesus and worshipping Him. Oh what a glorious day that will be. Diana L |

I used to work with a lady who thought we'd eat meat in Heaven, but that it would grow on trees. Can you imagine? |

ROFL!!! I can see it all now--bacon peeling off the trunk, steaks dangling from the branches, meatballs growing in clusters like grapes, hot dogs that you peel like a banana, .... |

Why even think about what heaven is like? If your satisfied with what God gives you here, you'll probably be happy with what he gives you there. If you are unthankful with what he gives you here, how will it change there? At any rate, there ain't a darn thing you can do about it, since he's the boss. Why be attracted to something you don't know beans about? Yall don't make no sense at times. River |
