I think this sermon will spark an exodus of SDAs who had been hoping to see a more inclusive and loving church in the future.
Ted Wilson destroyed any hope for those hoping to see progress along these lines. There is be a purge like this church has not seen in several decades.
I am glad he was voted in, as now many SDAs will get reaquainted with the heart of Adventism, and it's true face.
There will be a shaking, but it will be initiated from within and not from outside forces.
I have been following the discussions on several of my SDA Facebook friends pages, and 90% are appalled at what has transpired, and how quickly the fundamentist faction has taken over. |

I think Dennis said it eariler that the SDA colleges are going to have a difficult time finding profs who can be true to science and still embrace the young-earth, 6 literal day creation. The science is stacking up against this, indicating layers of the earth's crust that are hundreds of thousands of years old. I was listening to this Tim Keller sermon the other day: http://sermons2.redeemer.com/sermons/evolution-and-science and I learned something new. We can blame the general devotion to young earth creationism by mainstream evangelicals partly on SDAs. Apparently it can be traced back to George McCready Price, who was one of the early SDAs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_McCready_Price
Many Christians b4 that time, including B.B. Warfield, didn't subscribe to a literal interpretation of Gen. 1. Thus, I'm learning the difference between inerrancy and literalism. Apparently, there are many current theologians/scholars who fully subscribe to inerrancy, but do not believe in a literal creation week. Fascinating. It's nice to know that science doesn't have to conflict w/ Scripture.
However, SDAs are up a creek if the literal creation week falls by the wayside, and we all know why... Ted Wilson mentioned it near the end of the clip above in his address. |

My physician is a former Adventist. I asked him why he left the church. He said it had to do with how they treated his dad (who was a pastor who left the church with all the Desmond thing was going on years ago). However, the main reason he left is that he said that in a basement somewhere at Andrews there is a full size Mammoth skeletal remain that dates to be 10,000 years old. He said they hid that Mammoth because it would disprove the age of the earth.
Interesting to see why some people leave the church! Does anyone else know about this supposed Mammoth that is at Andrews?

ugh... I just went and read the link that Richard provided. Unbelievable! He talked about everything except for what Christ accomplished for us at the cross. The gospel was completely absent. Here are a few quotes:

Look WITHIN the Seventh-Day Adventist Church to humble pastors, evangelists, Biblical scholars, leaders, and departmental directors who can provide evangelistic methods and programs that are based on sold Biblical principles and "The Great Controversy Theme."
The next paragraph He admonishes to have "Christ centered, Bible-based worship." He ends the paragraph wiht "To define it too closely is impossible but when you read in Scripture of the holiness of God's presence the Holy Spirit will help you to know what is right and what is wrong." I guess the Holy Spirit can be your guide when it comes to worship... but when it comes to theology, you better consult their pastors.
He says that "Don't succumb to fanatical or loose theology that wrests God's Word from the pillars of Biblical truth and the landmark beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church."

My remembrance still upsets me when a new SDA Kansas-Nebraska Conference president, Gordon Retzer, spoke to the College View SDA congregation about 15 or more years ago. Like Ted Wilson did in Atlanta yesterday, this guy emphatically proclaimed how Adventists are God's chosen people (having the exclusive franchise of heaven), Ellen White is the best gal the world has ever heard of, ad nauseum. Whenever he stated a so-called SDA "truth" he would exclaim "That's us!" over and over again.
Amid all his extravagant hyberbole and repulsive sanctimonious rhetoric, two elderly, visiting women wisely stood up during his sermon and walked out. They were clearly unwilling to listen to him any further. What a insult his remarks were to their intelligence! I think he has now been promoted as president of the Southern Union Conference. Even though still a devout Adventist when Retzer spoke, I remember feeling disappointed and uncomfortable with his dogmatic presentation. I heartily agree that Ted Wilson's sermon yesterday revealed the cultish nature of Adventism once again. Truly, those who are intent upon accurate answers will no longer remain in a toxic-faith system.

I'm so glad I found this! I hadn't been on the site in awhile and I recently heard Richard Peifer on People to People talking about Adventism so I figured I'd check in. I remember the big to-do the GC was in 2005, and I think this new guy is whackier than Paulsen! I read through some of the 3 July speech and I was floored! Sure, classic SDA rhetoric, but for them to reaffirm in this way is beyond belief. I agree with others above that this may make several leave the group. And LOL to them talking about grace. Grace is not the promise of God's pardon. They are still looking to be forgiven! They have never accepted that Jesus Christ has already fulfilled the law and provided forgiveness for us! I shake my head and try to quell my anger as I read these appalling comments from this self-righteous group. Anyone who casually wants to align themselves with this group had better know what they are getting themselves into! |

Colleen, Dennis, others, it's been too long. I've missed y'all.
I am still in the military. I'm finishing up my tour in Alaska and Uncle Sam is sending us to Minot, North Dakota. We actually leave on the 1st! We'll be sad to leave here; God has done wonderful things for us here and this place is just breathtaking. We're also excited for a new chapter of our lives. We recently welcomed a new addition to our family, Luke Josiah, on 21 May.
We recently enjoyed a visit from my SDA mother-in-law, who had been a point of contention on our marriage since my wife left the group. She's mellowed much since then, and is admittedly "out of practice." She still affiliates herself with SDA however. After reading through this thread Wednesday, I was angry at the deception and saddened for those who don't understand or don't get it. I think if more Adventists took the time to really listen to what their leaders are telling them, more eyes will be opened.
I've been listening to podcasts of People to People, and while I'm a few weeks behind, I've noticed Richard Peifer fielding questions more frequently regarding Adventism. While the nature of the program isn't to address SDA, something tells me word has gotten around that a Former is on a well-run program not only exposing the truth about SDA, but proclaiming the true everlasting gospel. This is a wonderful thing!
Colleen, I skimmed through your Sabbath School notes on "Romans" and agree with your conclusion that they are definitely setting others up to read the NT in the light of Ellen. This is the most concrete evidence and explanation of their erroneous position I've seen published. All Formers and evangelicals ministering to SDAs should be familiar with it in order to propoerly refute their erroneous claims.

I understand what you mean about Alaska. My oldest sister and I went on an Alaskan cruise 5 years ago. The scenery is breath taking.

I was born and raised in North Dakota. Those formation flying aircraft (three on top and three on the bottom) from the Minot Air Force Base used to really scare me as a child as they suddenly appeared and roared over our farm at great speed. Good to hear from you again.

Hugh Ross is a Christian astronomer and astrophysicist. I have seen him interviewed on the John Ankerberg show and know several former-Adventist Christians who are really blessed by his ministry. http://www.reasons.org/ (His DVD "Journey Toward Creation" is mind-blowing!). |
